Black Obsidian
A naturally occurring volcanic glass that forms when molten lava cools quickly, black obsidian has a glossy black surface which often has other colours and shades occurring within it.
Throughout history, black obsidian has been used for ornamental purposes and is thought to hold healing powers, to provide the wearer with protection from negative energies and influences. It is often associated with the root chakra.
A variation of the black obsidian is the snowflake obsidian which is said to be helpful in promoting communication and understanding, as well as in enhancing psychic abilities. One of the most unique things about snowflake obsidian is its appearance. The stone is black with white "snowflakes" throughout, making it quite striking.
