Our Mixed Carnivorous Plant Selection offers an assortment of healthy carnivorous plants chosen from the varieties currently available.
Depending on stock and the selection purchased, your plants may include favourites such as Venus Flytraps (Dionaea muscipula), North American Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia) and Sundews (Drosera), giving you the opportunity to experience several very different types of carnivorous plant.
Each has evolved its own remarkable method of capturing insect prey, from the rapid snap traps of Venus flytraps and deep pitfall traps of Sarracenia to the sparkling sticky leaves of sundews.
A Varied Selection
Plants are selected to provide an interesting mixture wherever possible and may vary according to seasonal availability.

Venus Flytraps – famous snap traps that rapidly close around insect prey.

Sarracenia Pitcher Plants – spectacular tubular leaves designed to attract insects into deep pitfall traps.

Drosera Sundews – beautiful leaves covered with glistening sticky droplets that capture small flies and other insects.
Individual species, hybrids, colours and forms will vary according to current stock.
Where possible, we will aim to provide a varied selection rather than multiple identical plants.
Growing Information
Light: Most plants within this selection appreciate very bright light. Venus flytraps and Sarracenia perform particularly well in full sun, while many commonly cultivated sundews also develop their best colour and growth in strong light.
Water: Use rainwater, distilled water or reverse-osmosis water. Carnivorous plants are sensitive to minerals found in many supplies of ordinary tap water.
Keep the compost moist, with pots generally stood in a shallow tray of suitable water during active growth.
Compost: Carnivorous plants require specialist, nutrient-poor compost. Never use ordinary multipurpose compost, enriched compost or conventional plant fertiliser.
Feeding: There is normally no need to feed carnivorous plants. When insects are available, the plants are perfectly capable of catching their own prey. Never feed the traps meat or other human food.
Winter Care
The exact winter requirements depend upon the plants included in your selection.
Venus flytraps and Sarracenia are temperate carnivorous plants and require a natural winter dormancy.
Many commonly cultivated Drosera, including Cape Sundews, do not require the same cold winter dormancy and are better protected from severe frost.
For this reason, we recommend checking the individual requirements of each plant included in your selection.
Plants Supplied
You will receive a mixed selection of established carnivorous plants chosen from our available stock supplied in the sizes shown in the images.
As these are living plants, size, colour, number of traps and overall appearance will naturally vary according to species, season and stage of growth.
Some plants may temporarily lose colour, traps or sticky "dew" during transport. With appropriate light, water and growing conditions, healthy new growth should develop as the plants settle.
